04/03/2003: "The Winter That Will NOT Die!"

In my last post, I went on about how much better everything seems in the spring. Ever since then The Winter That Will NOT Die has been back in charge, Big Time. We even had to put our heated water buckets back up for the horses! We’ve had a few warm days lately, but it’s supposed to drop into the upper 20’s overnight on Saturday and be in the mid 50’s in the daytime for the next several days. Now, dang it, this is getting downright RIDICULOUS!!!!

On the positive side, (gritting teeth) I did find that wonderful bosal/mecate set for Indy, and I’ll be trying it on him in the next few days. I decided - after much debate - to go ahead and put it on DJ’s favorite bridle. This was NOT an easy decision, and I was crying yesterday as I removed the little round bridle tag that said “DJ.” Heck, I’m crying now. It was DJ’s “working” bridle, and we had so much fun for so many years… I have to stop now. I can’t see what I’m typing. More later.

Is there no way to inscribe Indy on the reverse side and keep the tag on the bridle? They are both in your heart and both will have their spirits in that bridle. I don't think DJ would laugh - how could he see it as it's just more of how much you care?

Hi Suzy - Finally finished reading all of Indy's journal and feel like I'm caught up on all I've missed the last year or so. Wow, what an ordeal! Indy is lucky to have such a dedicated owner.

I know what you mean about this awful weather. I went to see Odie straight from work and didn't have a jacket. It was WARM when I left work! I just rode him in a round pen since it was threatening rain the whole time. By the end, I was freezing! Didn't have the best of days with him either but we did O.K. Don't know if it was the weather or just plain orneriness but he was being very stubborn and wanting to throw his head the whole time.

I understand about the bridle but have to think that DJ would approve. I've got two rides on Odie under my belt, can't wait to hear of your first time on Indy!

Oh Suzy,
My sadness is twofold..first for your big decision as I can truly imagine how hard that was. But since DJ helped you to find Indy it seems a great tribute to DJ for Indy to wear it.

Secondly, as I type this, the ice pellets are pounding loudly on my windows and I had to blanket Joe and Navi tonight as I came home to a very soaked and shivery horse. According to the weatherman we can expect freezing rain, ice pellets and 15 cm of snow from now to Saturday :(
